Team Chabuk-Sports Desk: The match between Kings Punjab and Rajasthan Royals on Monday will be eyeing big hitters. Punjab is headed by Lokesh Rahul and Rajasthan’s Sanju Samson. Both teams will try to start their campaign with a win in IPL-14.
Rajasthan’s all-rounder Ben Stokes, who will be desperate to score, runs. Similarly, his England partner Jose Butler and newly appointed captain Sanju Samson would like to get into the rhythm from the first match.
Rajasthan’s innings will be started by young talented Yashasvi Jaiswal and Butler. While captain Samson and Stokes would take responsibility in the middle order. If all four batsmen go, then any attack can be overshadowed.
The Royals also have several other options including Shivam Dubey, Shreyas Gopal, Rahul Tewatia, Ryan Parag and Liam Livingstone. Gopal, tewatia and Parag are all leg-spin throwers, so it will be interesting to see which two the team gives a chance.
Big task on Chris Morris
In the absence of fast bowler Joffra Archer due to injury, the Royals’ fast bowling attack will be led by Chris Morris, who the team bought at a player auction this year for a hefty sum of Rs 16 crore 25 lakh. Rajasthan will need to bring down their right combination as any team can field only four foreign players in the playing XI. It remains to be seen whether the Royals field left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman or select between Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi and Chetan Sakariya.
Sixer King Gayle will be on watch
Punjab, on the other hand, has aggressive batsmen like Rahul, Mayank Agarwal (424 runs last season) and Chris Gayle. Rahul and Agarwal formed a strong opening pair in the last season and the pair is expected to remain intact. The team has good hitters like Dawid Malan of England, M Shah Rukh Khan of Tamil Nadu and Nicholas Pooran of West Indies.
Need to keep the team combination right
The team just needs to keep their combination right. Shah Rukh may get preference over players like Deepak Hooda and Sarfaraz Khan and he can play the role of finisher in the team. The team’s bowling attack will be led by Mohammed Shami, who performed brilliantly in the last season. The team also has Chris Jordan. However it remains to be seen who gets a chance to handle the new ball with Shami. In the spin department, the team has bowlers like Murugan Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi.
