Punjab won the match but Samson’s inning won the hearts

Team Chabuk-Sports Desk: Sanju Samson (119) of Rajasthan Royals, captaining the IPL for the first time, scored his first century of this IPL season but could not save the team from defeat against Punjab Kings. The Punjab team managed to win by four runs off the final ball.

Getting an invitation to bat first on a run-filled pitch, Punjab scored 221 with the help of skipper Lokesh Rahul (91 runs, 50 balls) and Deepak Hooda’s 64 off 28 balls. Rajasthan’s team could score 217 runs for 7 wickets. Punjab won the match but Samson’s innings must have been successful and winning the hearts of cricket lovers.

Rajasthan needed 13 runs in the last over. The ball was in Arshdeep’s hands. Two runs came off the first three balls, but Samson hit a six on the fourth ball. Samson needed five runs off the final two balls to play the shot at long off.

Maurice ran to Samson for one run but Samson returned him to play the final ball himself. Now a six was needed on the final ball to win, but on Samson’s effort, Hooda caught the boundary.

Chasing a big target, Rajasthan openers Ben Stokes (00) and Manan Vohra (12) returned soon. Captain Sanju Samson added 45 runs for the third wicket with Butler (25). Sanju Samson continued the strike and completed the half-century off 33 balls. Shivam Dubey contributed 23 runs but Riyan Parag (25) kept the hopes of Rajasthan by adding 52 runs from 22 balls with Samson.

Parag was caught behind the wicket by Shami. The final three over’s required 40 runs. Samson completed the century in imperial style with four, then six and then fours off the first ball of the 18th over. Tewatia (02) was caught behind the wicket.

Chris Gayle complete 350 sixes

Earlier, Rajasthan won the toss and first put Punjab on the batting. The same stance backfired. Although Mayank (14) was out soon, but Rahul shared a quick 67-run partnership with Chris Gayle (40). Gayle hit two sixes in the innings with one in Stokes and one in Tewatia’s over. He now has a total of 351 sixes. The West Indies batsman’s wicket went to Parag’s account when Stokes caught him.

Rahul-Hooda’s century partnership

Deepak Hooda, who came in fourth place after Gayle’s dismissal, soon started showing aggressive attitude. Rahul and Hooda shared a 105-run partnership for the third wicket. Rahul hit a six off Dubey to complete his half-century in thirty balls.

Hooda also hit two sixes in the 13th over of Dubey’s innings. 20 runs came in this over. In the next over, Hooda targeted Gopal and hit three sixes. One six he also hit Maurice.

The team scored 111 runs in the final 8 overs. Hooda was playing the first match since the last IPL. Then in November, he scored an innings of 62 runs against Chennai Super Kings. He was then suspended in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy following a dispute he had with Krunal.

Rajasthan tried eight bowlers to stop the Punjab batsmen on a run-filled pitch. Chetan Sakariya, playing the first match of the IPL, took three and Chris Maurice took two wickets.
