Team Chabuk-National Desk : From today, FASTag is mandatory for payment on national highway tolls across the country. A vehicle which does not have a FASTag will be fined heavily. However, two wheeler vehicles have been exempted from the FASTag. FASTag was implemented in the year 2011. FASTag was made mandatory for all vehicles purchased after 2017.
What if FASTag is not applied?
If the car does not have a FASTag, then the driver – owner will have to pay double toll tax or penalty for crossing the toll plaza. The government is preparing that from February 15, 100 percent toll can be collected only with the help of FASTag. At present, of all the toll taxes that come from the National Highway, only 80 per cent come with a FASTag.
What is FASTag?
FASTag is a type of tag or sticker. It is mounted on the windscreen of the vehicle. FASTag works on radio frequency identification or RFID technology. Through this technology, cameras on the toll plaza scan the bar code of the stickers and the toll fees are automatically deducted from the wallet of FASTag.
Use of FASTag provides convenience
The use of FASTag does not stop a driver from paying toll tax. It is used to reduce the time spent on toll plazas and to make travel easier. After the FASTag is fully implemented, people will get rid of cash payments, as well as saving fuel and time.
