Team Chabuk-Sports Desk : The pitch of Narendra Modi Stadium was completely a graveyard for the batsmen. 30 wickets fell in two days, in which 28 wickets were cracked by spinners. In the first innings for England, temporary off-spinner Joe Root took five for eight and left-arm spinner Jack Leach took four for 54.
After this, only Akshar (five for 32) and Ashwin (four for 48) from India were enough to shake England. Washington Sundar bowled only four balls and he managed to take wickets in them.
Akshar, who took six wickets in the first innings, handled the new ball and bowled Jock Crowley on the first ball to punish him for playing on the wrong line. He became the fourth Indian in the world to take a wicket on the first ball of the innings and the second Indian spinner after Ashwin.
Akshar could not complete his hat-trick due to DRS, but managed to bowl Johnny Bairstow on the third ball, he took the wicket on the last ball of the first innings. Akshar then sent the pavilion to second opener Dom Sibley.
Ashwin is the fastest Indian to take 400 wickets
Ben Stokes (25) had an attacking strategy and hit three fours in his 34-ball innings, but Ashwin dismissed Stokes for the 11th time. Akshar took ten wickets in the match by dismissing Joe Root (19) in front of his home crowd. Oli Pope (12) did not understand how to play Ashwin in the second consecutive innings.
Ashwin then took his 400th wicket in Test matches by dismissing Joffra Archer. He is the 16th bowler in the world and the fourth bowler in India to reach this stage. Ashwin has become the sixth spinner to achieve this feat. After this, England’s innings did not take long to shrink.
Indian batsmen were also on their knees
Earlier, India also lost the last seven wickets for 31 runs. India’s five batsmen reached double figures in which Rohit Sharma scored the most 66 runs. Root took five wickets in the innings for the first time not only in Tests but also in his first-class career. Rohit showed his good form, but vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane could not walk again. Rahane, who often failed in front of left-arm spinners, was bowled out by Leach.
Suddenly the pitch became challenging for the Indians and the team shattered under pressure. Rohit missed sweeping on Leach. After this, Root wreaked havoc and did what Michael Clarke (six for nine) did in Mumbai in 2004. He sent Rishabh Pant (one), Washington Sundar (zero) and Akshar Patel (zero) to the pavilion as soon as they arrived. Ashwin (17) and Ishant Sharma (10 not out) playing their 100th Test match finally added useful runs.
