The Chabuk-National Desk : Only electric vehicles will now be used in all departments and institutions of the Delhi government. Existing vehicles (petrol, diesel and CNG) operating under lease hire will be converted into electric vehicles in six months.
At present, the Delhi government offices have a fleet of about 2000 vehicles. An order in this regard was issued on Thursday on behalf of the Finance Department of the Delhi Government.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s dream is to make Delhi the electric vehicle capital, which he is going to fulfill. Delhi will be the first state not only in India but in the whole world, where all government departments have been instructed to use only electric vehicles. This step will help a lot in controlling the pollution. Not only is this a big step taken by the government in the face of climate change and environmental challenges.
Sisodia said that the issuance of orders in this regard by the Finance Department in the third week of the Switch Delhi campaign is expected to give a big boost to electric vehicles. PSU EESL will be used to purchase, rent or lease e-vehicles under the Gem Portal or the Energy Department of the Central Government. The permission of the finance department is mandatory for the purchase of vehicles for the first time. However this permission will not be required for extension of existing contract.
Deputy Chief Minister add that, The fact that all the vehicles operated in all the departments, autonomous institutions and grant aided institutions of the Delhi Government will be electric will help a lot in improving the environment of Delhi. The Department of Transport has been made the nodal agency for this.
