MCA: Who will be the next coach of Mumbai?

Team Chabuk-Sports Desk: Domestic cricket legend Amol Muzumdar, former Indian spinner Sairaj Bahutule and former Mumbai coach Sulakshan Kulkarni have applied to become the next coaches of Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) last week sought applications for the post of coach of the Mumbai senior team and has also set the eligibility rules for the applicants according to which the applicant has played 50 first-class matches.

Monday was the last date to apply and according to a senior MCA official, Kulkarni, Muzumdar and Bahutule were among the well-known names who applied for the position. The team, led by former Mumbai captain Muzumdar, won the Ranji title and has been the batting coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), the IPL team Rajasthan Royals and the South African team. He is also an eminent commentator.

Bahutule has been a veteran of domestic cricket, playing two Tests and eight ODIs for India. He played 188 first-class matches, taking 630 wickets. He is the coach of Vidarbha, Kerala, Bengal and Gujarat for the last two seasons. Kulkarni was the Mumbai coach when the team won the Ranji title in the 2012–13 season.

He has also coached Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. Last season, Mumbai had appointed Amit Pagnis as coach for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but left the post after the team’s poor performance. MCA then appointed former Indian off-spinner Ramesh Powar as the head coach for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with the team becoming the champion.
