Team Chabuk-Sports Desk: The first T20 played between West Indies and Sri Lanka saw fours and sixes. Caribbean captain Kieron Pollard played a stormy knock of 38 runs in 11 balls. During this, he bowled six sixes in Sri Lanka’s leg-spinner Akila Dananjaya in one over. At the same time, Akila Dananjaya also took a hat-trick in this match. With this, he became the only bowler in the world to take a hat-trick in a single match and six sixes in an over.
He dismissed Evin Lewis (28), Gayle (0) and Nicholas Pooran (0) for three consecutive balls in the fourth over. With this hat-trick, Dananjaya became the 15th bowler in the world and Sri Lanka’s fourth bowler to take a hat-trick in T20 cricket.
Dhananjay took three wickets for 62 runs in four over’s. Talking about the match, Sri Lanka scored 131 runs at the loss of nine wickets while batting first after losing the toss. In response, the West Indies won the match by four wickets with 41 balls left.
Captain Pollard has been instrumental in this victory of the West Indies. It was only because of his stormy innings that the Caribbean team won their first T20. Pollard became the second batsman after Yuvraj Singh of India to score six sixes in an over in T20 cricket and the third batsman in all formats. Yuvraj did this feat in the T20 World Cup 2007 in Stuart Broad, England.
Dananjaya is just the third bowler in international cricket to have six sixes in an over. Before them Stuart Broad of England and daan van bunge of the Netherlands had six sixes in one over. Dananjaya has become a bowler with these two bowlers jointly scoring 36 runs in an over in international cricket.
Prior to that, Sri Lankan bowler Tisara Perera got 34 runs in ODIs against New Zealand in 2019. Dananjaya made his debut in international cricket eight years ago. He has so far taken 33, 51 and 25 wickets in 6 Tests, 36 ODIs and 23 T20 matches respectively. Dananjaya also bats in the lower order and he also has a half-century in Test cricket.
