The White House has withdrawn the nomination of Indian-American Neera Tanden

Team Chabuk-International Desk : The White House has withdrawn the nomination of Indian-American Neera Tanden, nominated for the post of director of the Department of Management and Budget in the US. Reuters has given this information in an official quotation.

A few days ago, two important Senate committees abruptly adjourned meetings confirming the name of Indian-American Neera Tanden for the post of Director of the Department of Management and Budget. Meanwhile, the White House said it was trying to get Neera Tanden’s name confirmed.

Neera Tanden had tweeted in the past against several leaders, including her party leaders, which led to Republican Party leaders and some Democratic senators opposing her nomination. There was speculation that the White House was struggling to get the necessary votes to confirm Tanden. The Senate Home Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Senate Budget Committee abruptly postponed the voting to be held on Wednesday (February 24) to confirm Neera Tanden’s name.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in her daily press conference that ‘‘we are trying to (confirm) the nomination and that (Neera Tanden) and our team are in close contact with senators and key groups’. She is an expert and her qualification is very much needed in this unforeseen crisis.” Psaki said that Tanden is working hard to confirm his name.

Asked if the White House was looking for an alternative to him, She said, “There is a candidate to head the Budget Department and her name is Neera Tanden and we are trying to confirm his name.”

If Neera Tanden (50 )’s name were confirmed in the Senate, she would have become the first Indian woman to head the federal agency that produced the US government’s annual budget.

Republican lawmaker Rob Portman from Ohio said a few days ago that he would vote in opposition to Tanden when the name was confirmed. In addition, Republican MPs Susan Collins and Mitt Romney had also protested in the name of Neera Tanden.
