Team Chabuk-Sports Desk: With just a few days to go before the start of IPL 2021, the growing number of corona cases in the country has raised concerns. The biggest concern is about organizing the matches in Mumbai as most of the cases are coming to light here at the moment. That is why the state government has decided to impose a weekend lockdown from Monday. However, keeping these changing circumstances in mind, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly made a big decision.
Putting an end to all speculations, Ganguly said that there would be no change in the schedule of the IPL and the tournaments would be as per their schedule.
‘The lockdown will not be a problem for us as we have sought permission from the state government to hold the match there,’ Ganguly told ANI.
It is noteworthy that 10 league matches of IPL will be played at Mumbai’s Wankhede ground. All these matches will be played inside Bio Bubble between April 10 and 25. The first match will be played between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings. At present, teams of Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals are practicing in Bio Bubble here.
Meanwhile, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla said in the day that the Indian board is also considering vaccination of all players associated with the IPL and is in touch with the health ministry in this regard.
Significantly, the 14th season of IPL will start from April 9 in Chennai. The last winners Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore will face each other here. However, at present, RCB’s Devdutt Padikkal, KKR’s Nitish Rana (has recovered from the infection) and Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel has been infected.
