a new chapter of Indo-Pak relations can be started

Team Chabuk-Sports Desk : The month-long effort at the National Security Adviser (NSA) level is said to be the reason behind the sudden warming of relations between India and Pakistan after the Balakot attack.

NSA Ajit Doval and Pakistan’s NSA Moin Yusuf were in constant talks to restore peace on the Line of Control (LoC) through the back channel. According to officials involved in the case, the first result of the top-secret talks is a joint statement issued by the two countries’ Director General of Military Operations (DGMO).

According to sources, the two NSAs met in a third country. Preparations are underway for a face-to-face meeting once again for further confidence restoration. Moin Yusuf is a special assistant to PM Imran Khan’s National Security Department and Strategic Planning.

According to sources, in December, when tensions with the Chinese army were at an all-time high in eastern Ladakh, the first sign of a peace process was received from the Pakistani military. Despite the delicate situation with China, NSA Doval was not in favor of letting go of this opportunity. The back channel talks also raised the issue that Pakistan has joined hands with China in tensions on India’s eastern border. Only after assurances from Pak did the matter of implementing all the agreements, including the ceasefire agreement on the LOC, proceeded.

According to sources, if this latest agreement reached at the military level is maintained, a new chapter of Indo-Pak relations can be started. No one except Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was aware of the ongoing talks between the two NSAs.

Want relations with Pakistan like normal neighbor…

In a joint statement issued by India and Pakistan, the two sides said that “after a cordial and open review of the situation in the LoC and all other areas, both sides have decided to deal with any unforeseen situation or Hotline contact and flag meeting arrangements will be used to clear up misunderstandings.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that India wants a common neighborly relationship with Pakistan and is committed to resolving all issues bilaterally in a peaceful manner. Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, “There has been no change in our stance on important issues. And I don’t need to repeat that. ‘

Military officials said the ceasefire did not mean the army’s campaign against terrorism would stop. There will be no reduction in vigilance. Explain that India and Pakistan had signed a ceasefire agreement in 2003, but it has hardly been implemented in the last few years.

The Dawn newspaper quoted Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar as saying, “India and Pakistan have been in contact at the hotline level since 1987.” The DGMOs of the two countries stay in touch through this established mechanism. He said that since 2014, there has been an increase in incidents of violation of the ceasefire agreement on the LOC. The statement said, “Both DGMOs agreed that the existing agreement of 2003 should be adhered to in letter and spirit.” Both the officials agreed to make it sustainable and expressed their intention to take action on this basis.
