Team Chabuk-International Desk: China said it was happy with the recent readiness for talks between Pakistan and India. At the same time, he indicated that he wants to work with Islamabad to harness more positive energy towards regional peace, stability and development.
Significantly, the armies of India and Pakistan had announced on February 25 that they would strictly abide by all the agreements reached on the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and other sectors.
Just a few weeks after the announcement, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and Pakistan’s Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa extended a hand of peace to India, saying it was time for the two neighboring countries to move beyond their past.
‘We are pleased with the readiness for dialogue between Pakistan and India.’ Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a news conference on Monday.
However, a statement uploaded on the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website late in the evening quoted a spokesman as saying that China was happy with Pakistan’s recent positive engagement with India.
‘We would like to work with Pakistan to invest more positive energy towards regional peace, stability and development.’ the spokesman said in response to remarks by Pakistani President Arif Alvi.
Alvi had said in the Pakistan Day Parade on March 25 that China is the country’s closest friend. Welcoming Alvi’s remarks, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson also referred to the recent steps taken by India and Pakistan to reduce tensions.
