why Corona came under control despite having such a large population in India

Team Chabuk-National Desk : The whole world is suffering from the scourge of corona virus. Even a country like America failed to control the corona virus. Corona has caused the most destruction in the world in the United States, followed by India with the highest number of corona infections. But one thing that is bothering the experts of Corona virus is that despite being a densely populated country, the havoc of Corona in India could not reach the heights and collapsed in 2021. The mystery surrounding this is also going to surprise the experts.

Scientists are trying to figure out how the cases of corona virus are declining in India, while at one time it seemed that it could overtake even the most affected country, the United States.

In September 2020, about one lakh new cases were being registered in India every day, but this has come down to October and by January 2021, it has reached the figure of about 10,000 new cases per day. Experts are also struggling to understand this secret.

Assessment of experts

The Government of India believes that wearing a mask and following social distances have reduced the impact of the corona. But experts believe that people in the big cities of India gained herd immunity, which means that the virus began to spread to rural areas, but its effect was minimal.

A recent survey found that 56 percent of people in Delhi were found to have covid antibodies, much less than the 70 percent needed for herd immunity.

In India, only 20 percent of deaths have a medical certificate, 80 percent of deaths have no certification. Based on this, analysts are also saying that the death toll in India may have doubled or tripled.

Heard immunity in Mumbai-Pune

An antibody survey conducted in Mumbai and Pune, the second largest cities in India, revealed that 50 per cent of the people here developed antibodies. People in the most densely populated areas developed herd immunity which did not allow the virus to wreak much havoc. The virus also spread to rural areas, but its impact was minimal.

The virus is less effective in sparsely populated areas. Due to this, the cases here kept decreasing.

At the same time, it is also true that cases could not be identified due to non-availability of health services in rural areas. Statistics show that only 0.5 out of every 1000 people in India had a swab test every day. This is the lowest number of investigations in any country.

Figures released in September last year show that the number of tests in rural areas was much higher than in cities. Because of this, many cases of corona could not be identified.

Large population of youth, no disease already

Corona could not spread much due to the large population of youth in India. According to 2015 data, the average age in India is 30 years and only 15 percent of them are overweight and only 5 percent already have some kind of disease.

While the average age in the US worst affected by corona is 38 years and 32 percent of people are overweight. Of these, 36 per cent have some form of illness.

However, public health policy analyst Rizzo John says some states have been unable to say what kind of tests they are having. More and more states are moving towards rapid antigen tests in which many cases turn out to be false (false negative). RT-PCR is not being fully utilized.

This strengthens the immune system in Indians

India had taken strict steps from the beginning to stop the spread of Corona. In March last year, India had stopped the movement of aircraft. In countries like the UK, where a new strain of the corona virus has emerged, the movement of aircraft through the travel corridors has been cautious.

Jacob John, a virologist at the Christian Medical College in Tamil Nadu, says that there are many diseases in India like dengue, chikungunya, malaria, typhoid, cholera, influenza which have developed a kind of immune system against the new virus.
